The luck of the Irish? The gift of the gab? He kissed the Blarney Stone? Blood must have had something on his side that, after attempting to steal the crown jewels and flattening the crown in the process, King Charles II not only spared his life but returned his Irish estate and made Blood a member of his court with an annual pension.
