Cautley Spout waterfall

Having done all the. Wainwright fells,  we looked wider afield for new challenges.

Anyone who has driven up the M6 will have noticed the Howgill range of fells just before you get to Tebay services.   We have always thought they looked interesting so we went there today and climbed up Cautley Spout and up to Calf which is the highest point of the Howgills.

It was a lovely walk in perfect weather.  However it's not for the faint hearted as it involves a very steep and quite exposed walk up beside the waterfall.

After reaching the summit we followed a route I had. downloaded from the internet.   What I didn't realise is that much of the descent was down a very steep grassy slope with no path which was not pleasant.

We made it back to the car however

A lovely day
