The spiders and the fly

The four spotted chaser had been sitting sunning herself on the reed for a while, but the arrival of the spider caused her to take to the air as it gradually approached.  If you look carefully you will see that there is also a tiny spider lower on the reed.

My British Dragonfly Society field guide describes the common widespread four spotted chaser as "a rather dull chaser with distinctive dark spots on the wings".  It sounds rather like the report card that you got given from school by the teacher who you didn't much get on with.
