Morning chorus

Two weeks old tomorrow and the ducklings are growing at a phenomenal rate.

Every time I see them in a group I automatically count them, and yes, there are still 11.  They are now pretty confident, foraging out on their own to catch insects, diving and swimming in our little pond.  The routine is rest (in bundles together) and then forage probably in about 45 minute stints of each.  They still obey their Mum's instructions and she is very watchful for predators.  As well as the peacock, we saw her attacking a hedgehog late one night last week.

All the waterlilies are shredded and the grass and patio are starting to be splattered with duck poo.  I can't see how our small pond will continue to sustain them whilst we are away on holiday so I'm half expecting them to be gone next week.  Thank you to the volunteers who have said they'd come and visit and good luck Ben with keeping up with them.
