T*ts ahoy!

This bird box has been in a few garden for a few years without attracting anything – and we had pretty much given up hope with it. HOWEVER, by chance today we spotted a tree surgeon at our neighbours' house and asked if he could quote for pruning our wild plum tree. He was actually free to do it there and then, so went ahead – and reported that he was being buzzed by great tits as he was cutting the branches off.

He must have had his chainsaw within about 18 inches of the box – but they didn't seem particularly bothered as they were back and feeding their chicks almost immediately and I've just spent 20 minutes watching them coming and going with mouthfuls of insects. I didn't manage to get any 'in-flight' pics but I shall return later when the sun is lower and the bird box is better illuminated. Not too displeased with this one though :)
