Cudillero

A trip to look at Gijon and the old harbour area . There were fine views over the coast and an impressive sculpture but it didn’t really enthuse us . As it was starting to rain we went to the Museum of Asturian Life which was housed in the Seville 1992 Expo building moved to this site in recent years . Again it was a vast complex but free to enter . We enjoyed the outdoors part with Asturian homesteads of past centuries recreated including the horreos which are dotted about in nearly every village- used as maize and grain stores . It was apparent how hard the lives of ordinary people have been here until quite recently- lots of mining and ‘peasant’ conditions.
Then we went on to Cudillero - about an hour away - a small fishing village clinging to the sides of the hill . Parts were pretty, some parts very rundown. We enjoyed cheese tapas in a small cafe then walked round some of the alleyways to a viewpoint.
