Meadowfoam

Driving back to Portland today, we came to fields of blossoming Meadowfoam. I first heard of Meadowfoam from a man who sells honey.  I wondered what it looks like, what it is used for (other than honey), and what it smells like. Right now, the meadowfoam (see extra for closeup) is in full bloom: and it really does look like foam all over the field. The fragrance is sweet but subtle, more like apple blossoms than orange blossoms. It's apparently prized for its seed oil, which is used in lotions and cosmetics. And of course for what the bees make from it.

Rain started around 2pm, and traffic was a trial as always (especially in the rain), but what a great break it has been!
