First Painted Lady

She/he arrived in our garden in a momentary bright period this afternoon. Although these are very common butterflies they are so beautiful. I was glad to be able to see the underwing patterns. Painted lady migration patterns from Africa are highly erratic and they do not migrate every year. Some evidence suggests that global climatic events, such as El Nino may affect the migratory behaviour of the painted lady butterflies, causing large-scale migrations.

Just off to teach yoga now, see you tomorrow.
