Does anyone remember Blue Trains?

I’ve been following the restoration of a Glasgow ‘Blue Train’ for the past two years, being carried out by volunteers at Summerlee Heritage Museum. It’s slow going as there is a lot to do. They have one trailer coach (the front one) and one motor coach. One will be fully restored, the other an exhibition area. I think it will be a big success as people loved the Blue Trains which replaced steam traction, in the same way that they loved MIni cars. Both were very 1960s. This will be the only fully restored Blue Train in existance. The extra is a vintage shot of a train in its kingfisher blue livery. For a change I have to admit that this is all about nostalgia.

A flash of indigo
a whiff of electricity
your doors clunk shut
your motor whines
and the pantograph sparks

Kingfisher blue
and as rude as a barrow boy
your velvety seats seduce
while your steel wheels
seem to be somewhat
on the square side

Blue Train
John Coltrane
taking the down train
to Helensburgh
my childhood measured
in north Clyde electricity
not in steam
