The Old Smithy's Shop

The weather today on Dartmoor was grey and overcast. There was virtually no wind at all and away from the roads the moor seemed empty, apart from a few hardy cattle and ponies. The stillness had an eerie quality, as though the moor was waiting to be awakened from a dream. This ruin is sheltered by a huge beech tree. It is known as the Old Smithy, or Blacksmith's emporium and is situated close to Devonport Leat where the leat enters a long tunnel that passes under Nun's Cross.. The bright light behind the tree seems to add to the sense of mystery and the persistence of a living past.
