A day of two halves climbing at Twistleton Scars. Fi had forgotten her helmet so, as she was doing the leading, rightly or wrongly I lent her mine.

John led the same route after Fi and I had finished. For reasons unknown he rested on his first bit of gear, which promptly fell out of the bottom of the crack, and John fell. Fi and I heard him fall but didn't realise who it was. Even when we walked back down to the group I didn't recognise John because his glasses were missing, so it was a shock!

The nature of the crag is that there's a bit of scrambling to reach the start of the climb  i.e. there are boulders strewn all about.

Complaining of back pain Mountain Rescue was called, and John was stretchered off in due course. He was wearing a helmet, but it was severely dented. Sobering.
