End of an Era

We attended all 3 movies at the Mount Vic Flicks today, to mark the end of an era. Ron & Diane Bayley have devoted the past 27 years of their life to showing 'art house' movies at the community hall-come cinema in Mount Victoria, Blue Mountains. For the first 3 of those 27 years they travelled the 2.5 hours from their home in Bulli (a northern suburb of Wollongong) each weekend to screen the movies, before eventually relocating.

Today marked the end of Ron & Diane's involvement, and also it seemed to all, the end of Mount Vic Flicks.

However at the beginning of the final screening tonight Ron revealed to the packed cinema that a young couple (who he introduced) were investing in the required digital technology (dictated by inflexible film distributors), and would re-open the cinema within the next 2-3 months. The couple revealed that their plan was to continue to run the cinema in the 'arthouse' vein that the Bayley's have done for those 27 years - a great outcome for cinema and the Blue Mountains.
