Monet in York

As it was teeming down with rain and looked unlikely to stop we decided not to go for our usual Sunday outing to the moors but instead to visit the Monet exhibition at the York Art Gallery. A thoroughly enjoyable morning.

As well as Monet's 'The Water Lily Pond', there were paintings from other impressionists and a room of Japanese woodblock prints by Hokusai and Hiroshige who were a great inspiration for Monet. It's been such a long time since I visited the Art Gallery that I'd forgotten how much I liked all the ceramics, including some by Picasso on the upstairs floor. It was nice to revisit it all, as well as York's Lowry - his painting of Clifford's Tower is a favourite.
