A new day at midnight

Irish folklore, traditions and history

So many pictures today of our trip to N.I. Started off this morning watching the 'Orange' parade to a church service and this afternoon found us on the shores of Lough Neagh, the largest inland lake in the UK and created, so legend says, when the giant Finn McCool grabbed a sod of earth and flung it at his enemy across the water. It didn't quite make it and landed in the middle of the Irish Sea and the Isle of Man was borne! Believe it or believe it not..

This picture is of the ruined abbey at Ardboe, circa 10th century. Interesting Celtic cross and lots of Irish history in the graveyard adjacent including a few Irish freedom fighters from more recent times!

Lovely to see N.I. In the sunshine for a change!
