Soup for Dinner

Today we made soup from all the produce from the garden--cabbage (took me an hour to cleanse it of aphids) zucchini, green beans, rainbow chard, tomatoes and assorted herbs (we liberated a katydid from the herbs when we washed them). Peter and Dana came over this morning to have crepes with us and Peter supervised the picking of the veggies.

Oilman and I were really happy that we have finally found the perfect use for our formerly useless pool. It is perfect for Maya and Owen and they spent hours in it. It was chaos yesterday when everybody arrived, and Rudy was barking because he always barks, Ozzie was barking because he wanted in the worst way to get into the pool but couldn't figure out how to get himself over the wall, and the kids were happily playing ball in the pool. By today, Ozzie, having finally gotten himself in (and out) of the pool decided that the whole thing was overrated and retired to his bed .The kids, having breakfasted on tomatoes and carrots from the garden, followed by crepes, were playing happily in the pool.

I'm glad that we raised our kids when we were young, because it's a lot of work, as we are reminded when the grandkids come to visit--great fun while they're here but we certainly couldn't do it day after day! We were happy to wrap up the day with bowls of soup, bread and tomato salad with shaved zucchini and burrata. For dessert--Dips! (You'll have to look it up)....
