Orphan Orang Utan

Today we visited the Rasa Ria Nature Reserve beside our hotel, one of the reasons we chose to come to Borneo on our Malaysian holiday. The Rangers explained how young Orang Utans found abandoned or injured in the wild are brought here and over a period of several years, often 5 or 6, they are kept until they are ready to be rehabilitated into natural habitats. Since the sanctuary opened in 1996 more than 30 have been returned to the wild after a period at Rasa Ria.
This very cute 3 year old baby entertained us swinging from the high branches and after a feeding session decided to play on the ground and did somersaults and other acrobatics.
