Took the train to Oristano, further up the west coast this morning, with mild hangovers. As soon as we dropped off our baggage, we headed straight to the beach at Is Arrutus. As Oristano is slightly inland, about 5km, there's no sea breeze to cool it down, so it was almost unbearably hot.

The beach at Is Arrutus is composed of tiny quartz pebbles instead of sand, so it's much easier to brush off clammy skin and towels, as well as being much softer to walk on, and is - quite frankly - heaven on Earth. The beach was pretty crowded, as we got there about 3pm, but we found a space straight away and baked out all of the previous evening's overindulgences. With regular dips in the azure, crystal clear sea (which was the perfect temperature), of course.

We had to get the last bus back to Oristano, because it was also the next bus after the one which took us there, and we had no means home if we missed it, so that meant we had to stay until 7.30pm, but it was still plenty warm enough and a lovely place to be. Took this photo whilst we were waiting for the bus. I think this spot also served as the bus stop.

One of my favourite places in the World, I think. Definitely top-two beaches.
