Tonight we discussed The Garden of Evening Mists by Tan Twan Eng - an atmospheric and poignant novel set in Malaya during The Emergency in the 50s when it was still under British rule. We all felt that we learned a lot in the course of reading it - I personally have very little knowledge of the area or it's history, despite being born in Changi! It was shortlisted for the Booker Prize last year, deservedly so.

Now we have six weeks to read something a bit lighter: The Universe vs Alex Woods by Gavin Extence.
