Fethiye

Trip to Fethiye market to meet up with friends from home. 37 degrees when we parked the car ... Significantly higher in the market.

One of the Dalyan market holders who was there asked us why we came...it's much cooler where we were.

Back home for a dip I the pool...and I managed to read up about the history of Turkey. We have barely scratched the surface here. The is huge architectural influences from the East, the Romans, the Ottomans, Christianity, etc ...so much to come back and see. No 3 was impressed to hear that it is the birth place of St Nicholas, and also where the Virgin Mary spent her final years. Although she now wants to know how Santa got from Turkey to the North Pole!

We wandered into town in the cool of the evening...lots of 'hellos' and handshakes and kisses from our new friends. I was told by an ex-pat that if I came back in a year they would still remember us. Tomorrow is No2's birthday she wants to postpone it until we are home. We stopped in at our local 'pub' on our walk back and we were still there at midnight. They produced a cake and candles and played 'Happy Birthday'...we had only sat down 30 mins previously. That's how they are here. Everyday is a celebration.

Postscript: a special welcome to Jane with the camera. I spoke to a new potential blipper and handed her a card. I hope she joins us. We are a friendly lot. Jane...you are a brave lady to travel with your camera alone...may you have many adventures....and tell us first!
