Figgy pudding

Or rather, figgy upside-down cakes. I made them at the surplus food cafe.

It's the first time we've had fresh figs and these ones that came in on Monday were well past their best but I cut out the bad bits and lightly cooked the rest.

Today I placed a layer of them on the base of the cake tins and spooned on top a sponge cake mixture (which included some ground almonds). When they were done I turned them out and poured over a syrup made of the fig juice and orange juice.

Really fresh figs have no need of such treatment and are best just eaten as they are. Chaiselongue blipped her beautiful local figs in the late summer of 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012.
This year there will be none from her.
