A big step forward! We went to view a house today and it seems that we found ourselves an appartment! Upper East Side, 16th floor, 1 bedroom, including dishwasher and...walk-in closet! Fingers crossed that the lease will work out and we can really call ourselves inhabitants of NYC :)
