Day of the fritillaries

A good day at the nature reserve today with more sightings of Dark Green Fritillaries, Argynnis aglaja, and the first sightings this year of Silver-washed Fritillaries, Argynnis paphia (pictured). With quite a strong wind and hot sun, making them very flighty, it proved very difficult to get good photos. This male Silver-washed was involved in fights with another male as it patrolled its section of woodland ride. The only time it perched was about 4 metres up on a Sallow - hence this rather poor shot.
