Vivre Le Tour de France

We were all looking forward to this day on our holiday here in France because today was the day we would actually get to see the Tour De France for real! Hubby was particularly excited as he loves his cycling. So off we went, me and the girls in the car and hubby on his bike.
Today was stage 12 of the Tour which started in nearby Fougeres and finished in the city of Tours. As we didn't want to watch the start we decided to travel to a village that the Tour would be passing through, and decided on the village of Saint Ouen Des Toits, 25 miles away.
Me and the girls arrived and set up our chairs in the village, making sure we had a good vantage point and of course put up our Welsh flag! Hubby arrived about an hour later as he had to make a couple if detours along the way!!
The Caravan passed through the village first at 10.50 am which was a huge convoy of vehicles advertising their wares and giving away freebeies of all sorts from hats to keyrings to biscuits etc etc! Great fun to watch and try and catch all the free gifts!
The first group of riders came through 2 hours later and this blip is a photo of those 4 that were a good 10 minutes ahead of the Peleton.
We managed to see Chris Froome, the yellow jersey and current leader at the moment along with his Sky team mates, giving a special loud shout out to Welsh boy Geraint Thomas who continues to cycle with a fractured pelvis!!!!!! Also spotted Mark Cavendish too but as this stage is very flat, all the riders went through very quickly so didn't get a good shot of him.
It really was amazing to see even if it was over far too quickly! If we ever get a chance to come over to France again when the Tour is on we will chose to stay near a mountainous stage as at least you'll be able to experience it for longer and see more of the riders!!
