Hitting the big city

The bus was late and the locals were agitating. We were relaxed because they were expecting it and it came soon enough. In the interim we learned to ask for a 'duo return' ticket, which saved us a couple of £s. There wasn't long to wait on the train and we were in Norwich just after 10.30am. It was cold and like a ghost town. We headed for coffee and a bacon roll, then wandered through the town centre to the Forum, visited the cathedral and ambled along the riverside taking in the sights and the atmosphere.

Our first impressions were cool, like the weather, but later gave way to warmer feelings. It seems quite a laid back type of place, influenced by the university and, no doubt, it's location in rural Norfolk. Not for us a 'must return' sort of place, but if we were 40 years younger we might be tempted to study there. We made the return train just in time and, back 'home', enjoyed a beer sitting outside the village pub in warm early evening sunshine. Then back to the chalet to find the ducklings grazing amongst the shrubs below the deck - what bliss!
