Quintessentially British: What did the Romans do?

The British, of course, are the sum of lots of different parts pasts. Our lands have been invaded by the Romans, the Vikings, the Normans... and each group have added many things to what it means to be quintessentially British today. This is part of a reconstruction of a turf and timber Roman fort in the village of Baginton, near Coventry.

In A.D. 60 the Iceni of East Anglia, led by the legendary Queen Boudica, rebelled against Roman rule, and were defeated in a terrible battle fought somewhere in the Midlands. As a result the Romans built a series of fortifications across the Midlands including this one, the Lunt.

The fort has been partially-reconstructed and visitors can stand on the ramparts, explore an exhibition of Roman finds in the granary and imagine what it was like training horses in the Gyrus - this reconstructed wood and sand training ring is a feature that hasn't been found anywhere else in the Roman Empire.
