Inverkip Lum

Inverkip Chimney built 1970's, demolition planned for 28th July 2013. This giant monolith is Scotland's highest free standing structure 236m, 778 ft and 3rd highest in UK. 1.4 million bricks and 29,000 tonnes of concrete give some idea of scale. As an oil fired power station it only worked once, for a few weeks during 1980's miners strike. However as a navigation mark for Clyde sailors it was in use 24/7 for over 40 years and will be sadly missed.
