Were we to do this again, I think the drive to Tuscany could be circumvented by a flight to Tuscany. The drive was actually not that bad at all. Colleagues expressed horror at the idea of taking to the roads of Italy, but as I say, when in Rome, or several hundred miles to the north.

Into the house after a stop off mid way for some lunch and a coffee in a bonkers motorway caffe.

Castilglioncello is a very nice seaside town, but as with so many places on the Tuscan coast, local knowledge is all. The first beach we visited was certainly under 200 metres from the house but we will no be going back there.

Quick trip to the local supermarket for a very large selection of local cheeses and wine, oh and some biscuits to keep the children fed for two weeks.

Out for a delicious pizza and ice cream in the nearest bar, where I suspect we shall be spending quite a lot of time.
