St Mary's Church tower

Continuing the ecclesiastical theme from yesterday, this is St Mary's Episcopal Church in Kirriemuir.

We have a holiday coming up in a few weeks, to walk the Dales High Way. Booking train tickets is a disgrace. For Perth to Shipley and then Appleby to Perth, Mrs P had quote of £200 from Trainline a week ago. That seemed a lot; I tried again today with Nationalrail and got an eye watering £325 for two!

I spent a while looking at other options, such as driving and finding somewhere secure to leave the car. Leeds Bradford Airport would do for Shipley, but it's a slow journey from Appleby in the wrong direction to retrieve the car.

Finally I found the solution. It's possible to travel via Glasgow with a short walk between stations, instead of via Edinburgh, but the train planner didn't know that. Booking Perth - Glasgow and Glasgow - Shipley/Appleby separately brought the cost down to just £114 for two. In all, it took me three hours on the web to find and book the cheapest option.

I'm looking forward to the holiday now, though.
