Chicory - A Story Worth Retelling
There are quite a lot of chicory flowers around at the moment. They're more of a wild flower than a garden one.
It also gives me a chance to repeat a bit of scurrilous etymology (Possibly for the third time here).
Chicory was and is used to make a coffee substitute - Camp Coffee is probably the best known in Britain. It was known as Mocca Faux in France and that was rather delightfully corrupted to Muckefuck in German.
So, if you're ever offered a Muckefuck in Germany, you'll know exactly what they mean.
