surely you can see

This picture amounted to almost nothing, but I was very sick yesterday and I'm lucky I did this well.

The reason I bother posting it at all is that it's part of my ongoing effort to stop filling the frame obsessively and take a few emptier shots. I have always been obsessed with technical quality in photos, and since I shoot exclusively with formats that are fairly limited in their maximum quality, I have developed a habit of frame-filling to the detriment of good atmosphere and narrative.

This is my mom, aunt, stepmom, and dad leaving lunch. When I took it, I was thinking about their diverging paths and my own. It doesn't express that, of course, but that's why I'm practicing. :)
