Happy Birthday, Mammy!

Despite all of the marches and subsequent violence surrounding the 12th in Northern Ireland, it always has a different meaning in our house.

The story goes, my granda owned a bar in the Waterside area of the city and all the Orangemen who drank in the bar wanted their pregnant wives to give birth on the 'Glorious 12th.' Unfortunately for them, their wives gave birth on every day apart from the 12th and my granny, the Catholic gave birth to her daughter Stella Elizabeth Campbell on the date. Oh, the banter in the bar that night was fierce!

Sidenote: The cake was lovely and light.
