Vatican queues

Walked through a country (Vaitcan) on the way to taking the train out of Rome. The queue for St Peter's Basilica was huge and for the museum even bigger. I have no idea how they could cope with standing in the sun for so long.

Stopped off in Tarquinia on the way north, which was a pleasant Etruscan town. Then continued onto the hills in Tuscany and met my couchsurfing host Lorenzo and other 'surfers' (from France, Romania, Hungary, Thailand, Belarus and Ukraine). Had a good evening over wine and pasta deliberating whether punk is dead or alive and well.

Lorenzo has an amazing place next to the castle in Arcidosso. He has opened up his house for anyone to stay, and operates a free library and shop for all. While, I was there they were making plans for a demonstration against an international energy firm that were producing geothermal energy in the area, but was poisoning the water supply and causing minor earthquakes in the area!
