beautifulcontradictions

By ColPepper

at the margins

at the margins
of land and sea
continuity of shape and form is ambiguous
realities become altered with each
rise and fall of tide
as each recedes
the shoreline
persists in attempting to create a memory of its preceding exposure
yet the sea equivocates
with guiles and tricks
here
lifting a stone
there
turning a rock
letting fall the ancient drifter's mouldering skeleton
or the jellied carcase
of the lost sheep, or calf, or sailor

Seas and the tides change us all
We are never the same
Again
