End Of An Era

My father-in-law retired from running Woodstock Youth Club tonight, bringing to an end a 54 year involvement with voluntary youth work. The Youth Club has been an ever present thing in his life, and consequently his family's life too. Bit s and bobs that have been picked up at car boot sales and things like that, over time, to supplement the club.

In 2006 his services were recognised with an MBE, which was a proud moment for him, and all his family, and rightly so. Now, at 71 he has decided that it is time to call it a day.

The club held a 'Fairwell Chris' evening, with past and present youth club members there playing games and having fun. He has certainly helped kids of 2 generations of families through the youth club, I don't know if he got to three generations of consecutive members.

Julian Cooper, the Mayor of Woodstock and The Duke of Marlborough (him that lives in Blenheim Palace) came to express their thanks for his involvement in the town, and to give him a small presentation.

Chris is the one ion the middle. Here is a report in the Oxford Mail about him.
