Honestly.   What a day.

If it wasn't for managers peeing their pants at the very mention of external auditors, my job would be really simple.  Fix code & implement it.  Done.

Now it's - fill out a checklist for every stage, and then complete the checklist to say you've filled out all the checklists.

Someone,somewhere has to realise that this is stupid.
