MR DARCY RISES FROM THE SEA

A giant statue of Jane Austen's iconic romantic hero Mr Darcy emerges from the sea in the South Bay Beach, Scarborough to celebrate the launch of UKTV's brand new TV channel Drama.

The 12 foot statue, which took a team of three sculptors over two months to design, construct and paint, pays homage to the show-stealing lake scene that was voted one of the most memorable British TV drama moments of all time and marks the 200th anniversary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice in 1813.
