Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome

Sir Chris Hoy was in the news this morning defending Chris Froome against doping speculation, claiming the Tour de France leader has been put in a no-win situation. Hope Chris can follow in the footsteps of Bradley Wiggins.

This might have triggered me to visit the Emirates Arena and the adjoining Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in the East End of Glasgow. Both these venues form one of the most versatile structures of its kind in Europe and are located alongside the Athletes' Village for next year's Commonwealth Games.

The Velodrome is named in honour of the UK's most successful Gold-medal winning Olympian and Scottish Commonwealth Games champion. Its 250-metre track has been designed by Ralph Schuermann, one of the world's foremost track designers. The permanent viewing capacity of 2,500 will increase to 4000 for Glasgow 2014 so that the roar of the crowd can fill the velodrome and spur on the cyclists.

Love the futuristic feel of this exterior shot of the Velodrome.
