pushing the boat out

Holiday - day 3

The day started misty and it seemed thicker in North Berwick. I  know the Bass Rock was out there somewhere but couldn't see it. There was plenty of activity around the harbour. On one side of the harbour wall an enormous crane was lowering a boat into the water and on the other I guess a dozen or more children were getting ready for sailing lessons. The picture is one of the safety boats being launched.

After lunch we drove a short distance along the coast to Tantallon Castle.
The spiral staircases (with rather uneven steps and no handrail) just kept going up. Once on  you are committed - no turning back.. There was a telescope in the grounds but still no view of the Bass Rock and all the gannets. The only birds I saw today were the fluffy puffins on sale at the seabird centre.
