A monarch's favourite food.

As I was walking around the neighbourhood this morning I was greeted by the unusual sight of a milkweed plant in bloom right beside the sidewalk. Usually these plants are seen only in the countryside. Milkweeds are essential for the survival of Monarch butterflies.

If you look closely you will see a large insect on the flower which was the subject of other photos I took of the flower. The insect was unusual in that it had two very different kinds of wing shapes and patterns.
