Nanutte

I have been admiring this man all winter as he began with a log and dug out a large canoe that was being launched today - I so would like to show you the canoe and the paddles and the maker together but ----to get all that, to not get in the way, to make sure I did not arouse the suspicions of the woman who with the elbow out part of an eagle wing and a shell of burning sage as she was blessing all the paddlers - she did not want this photographed - - -

The candid portrait must stand in for all the goings on. The truth is I never saw it launch as it was clearly going to be on Indian time which means sometime between now and the future.

The canoe is gorgeous, with hand drawn northwest coast designs and is going to be paddled to the outside edge of the Olympic peninsula for another ceremony.
