Cannibalistic Chicken

So we were busy last night and didn't get chance to retrieve the egg from the coop.

The boy went down today to find this. Two eggs; one whole the other eaten. Rhoda was truly mortified and clucked for a good ten minutes when the boy took it away from her.

We googled 'when chickens eat their own eggs'

Apparently it's normal and happens when it's a soft shell or if it gets knocked and cracks. I feel somewhat responsible and that we have let poor Rhonda down. We won't let our social life get in the way of our responsibilities as egg retrievers again.
