Forest of canes

The neighbour at the back of our Mas (which is centre-right on the skyline) has been very busy over the last week planting about 4,000 olives, at a very rough guesstimate on this land, which stretches right up to the top.

They had a machine to help them with the trenches for the actual planting, but have put all the canes in by hand and now have to finish tying the small olive plants to them. Then all the wires have to be threaded through to tie the canes to.

We've never seen olives grown like this, about a metre apart and with supporting wires, but maybe it's a new method? The land to the right is also theirs, but those olives are grown in the traditional way.
