Hopscotch is a game of numbers, played the world over. Hopscotch is also the name of a novel by an Argentine novelist, Julio Cortazar. The novel is called Rayuela in Spanish, and is recognised as on of the finest novels written in that language. Just as in the game of hopscotch the player can take multiple paths through the grid, so in the novel the reader can at any time choose which path to follow and can jump from one section to another. There are rather more 'squares' in the book than in the game; this page is where square 21 begins.
