Nagley's Store

Nagley's in Talkeetna, Alaska claims to be the oldest store in a long, long way. It was established during the early 20th century and operated as a store, post office and territorial headquarters.

Talkeetna is known as the jumping off point for climbers attempting to summit Mt McKinley / Denali. Climbers must be checked out by the park service here.

Talkeetna is the role model for the TV show "Northern Exposure"

It's a kitschy kind of place and inhabited by many millenials...some obviously of the trust fund generation. However, others looked like boomer hippies from 50 years ago (only young.) I think, also, that there was a tour bus in town because many of the belly bouncing boomers were seen wearing Illini, Buckeye and Hawkeye regalia.

This photo sums up the feeling of Talkeetna on the day we visited it....clutter and activity everywhere...cars parked all over. I don't think that the chamber of commerce noticed.
