A place to reflect

St Bernard's Roman Catholic Church in Batemans Bay still draws the crowds on a Sunday, but the pews were empty when I was mooching around today. It stands at the top of a hill, with a clear view of the ocean, and its gardens boast some fine trees and shrubs. I could see some of them entering into the spirit of the place as I peered through the glass doors at the images in stained glass of Pope John Paul II, lost behind the glimmer here, Cardinal Aloysius Stepinac, the Croatian martyr beatified by John Paul, and the Australian saint, Mother Mary MacKillop.
