The Life of Bri

Farrier

Had to hang around and hold the horses for shoeing this morning while Mrs B went off to work. But the Farrier and his partner are always interesting people to talk to, and they didn't object to me taking some photos. (Loads more to process than this one, but no time just now).

Shoeing a horse it quite a dramatic process, and I suspect not much changed from the olden days - except these days the farrier brings his forge to you (a wee gas-powered furnace in the back of the van) - rather than you bringing the horse to him.

This part of the process (placing the hot shoe on the hoof to check for fit) absolutely stinks - imagine the smell of burning hair, but lots of it - but the horses seem totally unperturbed by it.
