Pheucticus melanocephalus

The male Black-Headed Grosbeak. This colorful species is one of the most common summer residents of Yosemite Valley, frequently seen and heard. This particular grosbeak is a member of the cardinal family, sporting a hefty and characteristic seed-smashing bill.
