Zoe & Baxter

As I have not shown you the dogs for sometime I thought I should remind what they look like. This is Zoe, our Hungarian Vizsla in the foreground and Baxter, our Andalucian Podenco to the the right. They are both in typical 'begging for food' mode.

Baxter has settled in well with us but still have to be careful in his reaction to other people as he can go from sideling up to be stroked ( he prefers people to stroke his backend and so turns away from you when he wants petting ) to aggressive and snarling in a second. He is underneath a very anxious dog who has learnt to be aggressive when he feels at all threatened.

He now gets on relatively well with the pack of dogs with whom he walks at the weekend but you can never be sure how he will react when another dog passes so we have to keep him on a tight rein.

On the other hand he has learnt to return to us on long walks and so we can let him off the lead to scamper about. He absolutely loves rabbiting in the sand dunes on the beach nearby. When he is off the lead he is less likely to feel threatened by other dogs. Basically he seems to need a lot of personal space but I guess that could be said of a lot of us.
