The Stiperstones Ridge

Hotter than July!

Oh! It is July!!

The Stiperstones are made from quartzite, the hardest rock in the world.

This makes the trail across the ridge very hard on the feet, even if you are well shod [as we were!], the smaller trails to look at the lesser formations can be excruciatingly painful!!

Shepherd's Rock, Devil's Chair, Manstone Rock, Cranberry Rock, Nipstone Rock and The Rock are steeped in local folklore about warriors and princesses and, of course, the devil himself [fuming in his chair as he plots the downfall of mankind. Anyway, after a painful trek over the ridge and down into Stiperstones village, there is a lovely pint and a warm welcome at the Inn, which serves food 364 days of the year to weary walkers [and their dogs]. Hurrah!!
