Great Gorillas

Life-size model gorillas have been sponsored by businesses and community groups, painted in original designs by specially-commissioned artists and will be displayed in public, creating a unique art trail around Exeter and the English Riviera.The project is celebrating the 90th birthday of Paignton Zoo Environmental Park. It is also raising funds for gorilla conservation and a local community project. The Gorillas began their journey to their various locations by boat in a tour of the Bay tonight, generously provided by the Greenway Ferry Company. Tickets were free.There were 9 boats and we were on the Fairmile. Lovely weather and a wonderful night. Bob is at the front of this boat. He will be located at Prince William Quay, Brixham.

Lucky Man
We sailed out to sea in a flotilla
To celebrate Paignton Zoo.
On each boat were sponsored gorillas
Enjoying the breathtaking view.
Designed by artists and teachers
They'd all done a wonderful job
But my favourite of all of these creatures
Was one that was simply called Bob.
Not funded by combine or company
But family and friends who chipped in
To ensure he lived on in the memory
In his fabulous fibreglass skin.
So when my toes curl, and life is at end, and you are all sitting close to the bed
I don't want a statue, a tree or a bench, give me a gorilla instead
